St Mary’s & St John’s CE Secondary School: Up to 18 Performing Arts Scholarships are offered each year to pupils who can demonstrate a specific aptitude for instrumental or choral music, dance or drama.

Music Aptitude Criteria: Hackney New School

Hackney New School (HNS) will select up to 10% of its Year 7 intake on the basis of musical aptitude. HNS will run sessions to assess those children who have applied for consideration as musically talented pupils.

Children selected for outstanding musical aptitude will be selected regardless of CAT results i.e. there is no restriction on the number of these children in any one band.

Music Aptitude Test: Old Swinford Hospital Boys’ School

Three places will be awarded for musical aptitude at Old Swinford Hospital school each academic year.

Boys wishing to be considered for a place based on musical aptitude are required to sit an aptitude assessment test. The test has four component parts: pitch, melody, texture and rhythm. It is a test which requires them to listen to music, to write about what they hear and reply, for example, clap out a rhythm or sing back a series of notes.
